what you'll learn
If you’ve ever felt soreness or pain from playing your instrument, this online workshop is for you! Get to know how your body works from the inside-out using the Franklin Method®. You’ll learn the basics of healthy posture and how to incorporate somatic (a.k.a mind-body) tools into your practice and performance routines to help you feel great while you play and relieve tight muscles afterwards.
Relieve tight neck, shoulder, and arm muscles.
Find your ideal balanced posture while sitting and standing.
play with more effortless technique
Have you ever felt sore after a performance or practice session? Maybe the pain got so bad that you had to take time off from your instrument?
The research doesn’t lie–playing an instrument can put you at risk for injury. How you use your body matters! Your practice habits and the way you move, sit, and stand all have a direct impact on your playing and wellbeing.
Playing music can feel great.
That’s where the Franklin Method® comes in.
The Franklin Method® is a somatic method that teaches the fundamentals of healthy movement using embodied anatomy, gentle exercises, and mind-body techniques. It’s used all over the world in a wide variety of fields, including yoga, dance, Pilates, music, sports, and physical therapy.
As musicians, you can use the Franklin Method® to relieve tension, improve your body awareness, and actually change the way you move on a musculoskeletal level.
It’s an invaluable tool for music students, teachers, and performers!
I’m a professional violinist, teacher, and movement educator. Throughout my collegiate studies, I struggled with injuries and chronic pain. Nothing seemed to help me until I came across the Franklin Method® in grad school. After I finished my DMA, I became a certified Franklin Method® Educator and now teach anatomy and injury prevention workshops to musicians around the country.
I've taught Franklin Method® workshops at Indiana University, Chamber Music Guild (Seattle), and the Musicians' Wellness Symposium hosted by Classical Wellness.
"We had a deep sensation of embodiment, perhaps for the first time ever!"
"It deeply affected our listening and musical experiences after each session. [Erika's] ability to create the challenging bridge between movement and sound instantly elevated many of our awareness and therefore our musical performance."
"These classes were nothing short of amazing..."
"Erika marries the concrete and practical with the expansive and transformational. Erika's ability to share this powerful method in a way that was especially relevant for musicians was revelatory for everyone in attendance."
